Tobias Forge Defends Spotify Over 'Drawing The Music Business Out Of The Dark Ages'

Ghost frontman Tobias Forge has conducted a brand new interview. In an interview with WRIF‘s Meltdown, the talented singer talked about the benefits that Spotify brings to the music world.

A lot of things have changed with the introduction of technology into our lives, of course, music is among them. Now we have the convenience of listening to the albums of our favorite band or artist with one click, wherever we want, and this is pretty great.

However, although technology has positive aspects, it has also caused difficult days for groups in the beginning. For example, Napster dealt a deep blow to the music industry by spreading free file sharing.

Anyway, in his recent interview, Tobias Forge talked about Spotify‘s impact on the music industry. According to Tobias, “Spotify, and some similar services definitely drew the music business out of the dark ages.

“And Spotify – the same thing. I mean, yeah, of course I wish it was 1985; it would be fucking phenomenal. But it’s not, and Spotify -specifically Spotify, and some similar services definitely drew the music business out of the dark ages. That was about 10,12, 15 years ago, where there was nothing, it was just a big decline.

“And now, at least it works. At least Spotify gave the investors, for lack of a nicer word, but you know, record labels and music labels… They gave the labels an incentive to invest in bands again. And that is what was going out the door in 2007. They were leaving, they were, like, not doing it anymore because everything they invested in was a loss. So I’m really happy about that.”
