Brian May On Bohemian Rhapsody Sequel: "It's So Tempting To Do It"

In his latest appearance with the Daily Star, Queen guitarist Brian May admitted that a possible Bohemian Rhapsody sequel would please him.

The film Bohemian Rhapsody, released in 2018, tells the story of the rise of the legendary British rock band Queen and the dramas the band experienced while climbing the fame ladder. The film, which received a 7.9/10 rating from IMDB, became one of the highest-grossing productions ever.

On the other hand, the Bohemian Rhapsody track from which the film takes its name is considered Queen‘s signature track. Bohemian Rhapsody, the release track of Queen’s fourth studio album, dominated all the charts, even in different time zones. The song was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame in 2004.

Anyway, for the viewer to witness even a little bit behind the scenes of the Queen‘s legend is, of course, a marvelous thing. Still, it is impossible to look at the subject through the eyes of Brian May, who personally lived those days and whose own legacy was revealed. According to Brian May, the way the film was made and the feeling it reflected was exactly as it should have been, and it’s a pleasure to have been able to do this for Freddie Mercury.

“We’ve been talking about it,” Brian says about the sequel of the biographical movie. “I felt proud of it and the people who played us were just phenomenal.

“It’s so tempting to do the sequel. It would be worth it just to work with those boys again.

“‘Bohemian Rhapsody’ climaxed in Live Aid and I suppose implicitly Freddie [Mercury, late Queen singer] starting to deal with his AIDS, but an awful lot happened between the end of the film to the end of the glory days of Queen.

“I loved the fact we were able to do it for Freddie. That really means a lot and I felt we did it in the right way, and in the right spirit. Of course we were represented in the movie because we were a group, but it was really all about Freddie, and I think we did him good.”

Back in 2021, Brian May talked about the Bohemian Rhapsody sequel during a live session on Instagram. According to the musician, they’re looking at ideas to bring the newest continuation of the biographical film.

“We are looking at it,” Brian said. “Yeah, we have been looking at ideas.”

Concluding his words, May has also touched on how the sequel has to be. He said that it would has to be a great script first of all. He wants to provide fans and crowd better.

“It’s going to be hard to follow that one as none of us could have predicted how massive that was going to be,” he continued. “We put a lot of heart and soul into making it and no one could have predicted [its success] as it was bigger than ‘Gone With The Wind’.

“But yes, we are thinking maybe it could happen, but it would have to be a great script. It’s going to take a while to figure that out.”
